Setting up your Email Accounts: Enabling SSL email in Apple Mail

Step 1

Open up Apple Mail.

From the Mail menu select Accounts.

Select the account you want to add SSL to and click Advanced.

In theĀ Advanced window, change the following settings:

  • IMAP Hostname or POP Hostname: EnterĀ mail.livemail.co.uk .
  • Port: Change the number to 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP.
  • Use SSL: Tick this box.

Once done, click OKĀ to close the Internet Accounts window.

From the Mail menu select Preferences.

Click the Advanced tab and change the following settings:

  • Port: Change the number to 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP.
  • Use SSL: Tick this box.
  • Authentication: Select Password from the dropdown menu.
If these options are greyed out, untick Automatically detect and maintain account settings.

Click Account Information and select Edit SMTP Server List from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) menu at the bottom of the page.

Select the SMTP server that you want to edit from the list. Under the Account Information tab ensure thatServer Name is set to smtp.livemail.co.uk.

If you have a Standard mailbox you will need to use theĀ SMTP settingsĀ supplied by your Internet provider.

Click the Advanced tab and change the following settings:

  • Port: Change the number to 465.
  • Use SSL: Tick this box
  • Authentication: Choose Password from the dropdown menu.
If you have a Standard mailbox you will need to use theĀ SMTP settingsĀ supplied by your Internet provider.

Outgoing SSL

Once finished click OK.

Step 10

Close the Accounts window, youĀ will beĀ prompted to save your changes, click Save.
